Taking over Albany to Demand #Coverage4all
On Wednesday, March 2, 2022 CGA members joined New York Immigration Coalition partners in Albany for the largest demonstration at the Capitol since the start of the pandemic, demanding Governor Hochul and the New York Legislative Leaders include #Coverage4All in the NYS budget, which would expand lifesaving health coverage to 46,000 undocumented immigrant New Yorkers. The day started with a press conference featuring Assemblymember Richard Gottfried, prime co-sponsor of #Coverage4All, Assembly Members Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas (our co-champion in the Assembly), Taylor Darling, Harvey Epstein, Nathalia Fernandez, and Marcela Mitaynes. Assembly Members Zohran Mamdani, Manny De Los Santos, and Yuh-Line Niou joined later in the day. After the press conference, we marched inside the capital and staged a die-in to remember the thousands of lives lost to COVID-19 and draw attention to the ongoing health crisis facing immigrant New Yorkers.
