From now until June we will be mobilizing people all over Brooklyn to secure our fair share of billions in funding and political representation from the 2020 Census. These efforts will be lead by our organizing team made up of domestic worker and tenant leaders: Althea from the Southwest Brooklyn Tenant Union, Noreen and Rosemary from the Carroll Gardens Nanny Association, and Tachet from CGA Tenants! You can commit now to self respond to the Census and email Ben at bfgoogins@cganyc.org for opportunities to help us get out the count!

Play Date for Paid Time Off

We organized a Valentine’s Day play date with Hand in Hand: The Domestic Employers Network at Council Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo’s office, urging her to support Paid Personal Time legislation. Passing Paid Personal Time will allow low-wage workers, mostly immigrant workers and women of color, to take up to 10 days paid vacation. You can #showyourlove for Paid Time off by signing and sharing the petition!

Self Defense for Domestic Workers

Blog-Newsletter_Winter2020_04.jpg

With our neighbors at Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu we organized our first self defense class where nannies learned about creating safety plans for themselves and the children they care for. There was so much interest we are exploring a pilot nanny self defense certificate program!

Jiar

I get excited about creating brand experiences that are authentic, engaging and inclusive. My career journey consisted of a variety of roles and industries, from rolling out blockbuster movie campaigns at the Walt Disney to producing large-scale youth festivals for the Malaysian government. Having worn many hats for over eight years allows me to have a unique approach to marketing while building lasting partnerships, creatively problem solve, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Born and raised in Malaysia, I now call New York City home. Lover of plants, good coffee, and thoughtful brands. The Sorting Hat will say that I am a true Hufflepuff. You can reach me at jiarfong@gmail.com
