Our statewide Right to Counsel legislation (A07570A / S06678A) strengthens Right to Counsel in NYC and guarantees the right to a lawyer for ALL tenants across New York State. This important legislation:
• Applies to ALL tenants facing eviction.
• Covers ANY case that could result in a tenant losing their housing.
• Requires the courts, judges, and landlords to ensure that tenants know about and can use their Right to Counsel.

WHY: New Yorkers need permanent solutions to the eviction crisis! Right to Counsel has proven to be immensely successful at stopping evictions and protecting tenants' rights - For example, in NYC alone, more than 84 percent of tenants who had a Right to Counsel lawyer were able to stay in their homes. We must strengthen and expand this important right to ALL tenants across New York State!
