The Future Is Us: Celebrating 15 years of NDWA

In 2007, NDWA began organizing nannies on New York City playgrounds with the goal of building on the enduring legacy of the domestic worker movement while lifting the women who do the work that makes all other work possible in this country.

Fifteen years later, they are not only one of the largest membership-based alliances of women of color in the country, they have also taken our movement from the swing sets to the halls of Congress, winning groundbreaking local, state, and federal policy victories that are creating the caring future we know is possible.

Together, we built power from the margins when we were told it would be impossible, and we challenged who gets to hold it; expanded our movement to include artists, elected officials, engineers, and economists; organized with and for care workers, working moms, and family caregivers; and welcomed so many people of all walks of life into our movement.

As an organization, we choose our moments of celebration carefully, and this milestone is an important one to bring our community together.
