Fund for Excluded Workers 2.0: $3B more and permanent alternative to unemployment

On Monday November 22nd we joined Excluded Worker Fund Coalition members across the city for a day of action, thanking our elected official allies (we went to Assembly Member Marcela Mitaynes’ office) and calling for an expansion of the now depleted Excluded Workers Fund. The historic $2.1 Billion fund created earlier this year supported thousands of excluded workers across New York State, and we know there are countless workers still in need. At CGA we supported over 1,000 people, mostly domestic workers and construction workers, apply and secure funds. While we are celebrating this work we know that since the fund closed on September 24th, hundreds of people have continued to call requesting support. This is only a fraction of the people who are just learning about the fund and that they would have qualified. Its urgent that Governor Hochul replenish the fund and create a long-term sustainable alternative to unemployment, of which many workers are excluded from. Read below to join us in the campaign!

For more than a year, excluded workers across the state fought for financial assistance, even risking their lives in a 23-day hunger strike. After eighteen months of this pandemic, workers excluded from unemployment insurance and federal assistance related to COVID finally WON !! But, the funds were not enough to cover the needs of all, that is why now we are fighting again for a new Fund, that is a second round of aid and relief for hundreds of workers and their families who could not apply in the first round. .

Now, more than ever we need your help to unite in this fight and demand more funds for thousands of workers who are still suffering the ravages of the pandemic, you can join the Workers' Fund Committee; with your leadership we are sure that we can win once again.
