Our Work in 2018
As 2018 comes to a close we are grateful for the time to renew and reflect on a powerful year at our backs. From starting a new nanny association, supporting the launch of another worker cooperative, to organizing for tenant rights locally and nationally, we are feeling fortified in our commitment to housing and domestic worker justice in 2019.
Supported worker leaders to launch the Carroll Gardens Nanny Association, a new nanny led membership based organization.
Introducing Brightly Carroll Gardens! In partnership with the Center for Family Life we helped launched a new residential and office cleaning worker cooperative.
Marching for Housing Justice. Joined the Real Rent Reform Campaign to change NY State laws that will strengthen tenant protections and end loopholes landlords use to displace low income renters.
Actions Supporting Immigrants. A full summer of play date actions against ICE, a children led tribunal holding JP Morgan Chase accountable for financing detention centers, and a lemonade stand supporting a local immigrant rights organization.
Continued to support Hopewell Care grow towards being a sustainable and independent worker cooperative.
Launched Fair Care Carroll Gardens, a group of domestic employers and allies that looks to raise domestic worker standards in our community.
Advocated in Albany for Affordable Housing and Tenant Rights.
One of six worker centers and cooperatives to participate in Cornell University’s We Rise: Nanny Training program, an innovative workforce and leadership development initiative that looks to raise standards for nannies in New York.
From the local to the national: CGA domestic worker leaders participated in the National Domestic Workers Alliance‘s annual Congress and CGA tenant leaders joined over 100 other organizations in the Homes for All Assembly in Atlanta.
Revamped our Computer Training Program offering free computer classes to the community.
Organized another successful Southwest Brooklyn Fall Festival, bringing together local businesses, artists, and residents.
