NYC Coalition for Domestic Work Rally at City Hall

This past Sunday night we learned that our Domestic Worker and Employer Empowerment Initiative, introduced by Hand in Hand, Adhikaar, NDWA and CGA (members of the NYC Coalition for Domestic Work) wasn't considered for the FY23 NYC budget. But WE'RE NOT GIVING UP!

Our coalition interviewed dozens of City Council candidates a year ago to share our care platform and identify champions who can fight for us once they're in office. We won intro 339 in part because of those interviews! Although most of the candidates endorsed and committed to fight for government investment in outreach and education programs to support workers and employers, once in power they did not fight enough, and again domestic work were excluded from the budget. Another historic exclusion!

We need to pressure the City Council to do the right thing this and next week during the transparency resolution process, which are additional negotiations for budget decisions. Please join us TOMORROW, Thursday, June 16th at 1pm on the City Hall steps to demand City Council finish their job and include our initiative while we celebrate International Domestic Workers' Day!
